Two of Earth Tallow

What is tallow?

Tallow is an incredibly nourishing, vitamin-rich form of pure, rendered animal fat. Before the influx of man-made chemicals and unnatural substances in skincare, tallow was a prominent part of skincare products developed and used by our ancestors. Tallow contains high concentrations of fat soluble Vitamins A, D, and K (in a balanced combination with their activators) which have a profound impact on skin + overall health. Grass-fed tallow also contains Vitamin E (four times as much as grain-fed cows!), conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) which is anti-inflammatory as well as palmitoleic acid which has natural antimicrobial properties.

  • Vitamin A – Encourages the production of collagen, elastin and healthy skin cells + strengthens tissue to keep skin firm, smooth and youthful while helping to heal skin issues from acne to aging.

  • Vitamin D – Contributes to skin cell development, repair, metabolism and immune function + protects and rejuvenates skin by protecting against free radicals that cause premature aging.

  • Vitamin K – Plays an important role in skin tone, texture and overall health + soothes skin inflammation and irritations while helping to speed up the healing process.

  • Vitamin E – Powerful antioxidant that repairs and reverses free radical damage + deeply hydrates and promotes healing in skin’s appearance.

Tallow is incredibly effective in improving skin cell health due to the similar makeup it has to our skin. Our cell membranes are made up of mostly fatty acids, with at least 50% being saturated fats. Tallow is also made up of about 50% saturated fats – with the remaining amount being monounsaturated – making it compatible with our cell biology and powerfully nourishing for our cell health.

Another indication of its positive impact on our skin is it’s similarity to sebum (the oily, waxy substance that moisturizes, lubricates and protects the skin). Sebum is even translated to “tallow” in Latin! Both sebum and tallow are also mainly comprised of triglycerides (which have effective emollient + skin replenishing properties).

Will tallow clog my pores?

Tallow will not clog pores as it scores very low on the comedogenic scale. This means tallow is very unlikely to clog your pores. Tallow is high in Conjugated Linolenic Acid (CLA) which, has anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties therefore very healing for several skin conditions.

What is the shelf life of your products?

6-8 months. Up to 12 months if you refrigerate.

Do I need to refrigerate my tallow balm?

No, refrigeration is not required. All the ingredients are shelf stable. But placing in fridge will extend the shelf life.

My tallow balm melted. Is it still good?

There are no stabilizers or synthetic additives in our tallow balms. This means the products will melt when exposed to high heats (35 Celsius/95 Fahrenheit). Keep your tallow balm in room temperature. If it does melt, don’t fret. The balm is not ruined and can be re-whipped at room temperature or put in the fridge for a solid balm texture.

I left my tallow balm in the freezer. Is it still good?

You bet! Freezing temperatures will not ruin the texture. It will return to its original texture once it reaches room temperature.

Why do I feel grittiness in my balm?

Our whipped tallow balms are fluffy and luscious and our solid tallow balms feel like butter. However, on occasion, when exposed to heat fluctuations during transit, you may notice a gritty texture. It does not affect usage and will melt/blend immediately on application.

Why does my tallow balm look different than my last order?

Each batch will differ slightly from the other, simply because these are natural products with minimal processing.

Is your tallow balm safe during pregnancy and while breastfeeding?

We recommend using “The Sensitive” tallow balm during pregnancy or while breastfeeding as it has no essential oils.

Seed and Bulb Garlic

When will garlic be available for purchase?

Our 2022 garlic harvest is SOLD out. Garlic will be available for purchase in the late summer of 2023. Harvest will most likely be in late July and curing takes 2-3 weeks. We will update this page once we can start selling it.

Can I have garlic shipped?

Garlic will be available for pick up or delivery for a small fee within the Toronto area as shipping can lead to bruising and eventual spoilage of your beautiful garlic.

Is your garlic organic?

We grow our garlic naturally with no pesticides or chemical fertilizers. However, we can’t state our garlic is organic because we haven’t gone through the high cost and mountain of paperwork to have our garlic certified as organic.

Will you be growing other vegetables?

At this time we don’t expect to grow other vegetables. However, never say never! And we will update this page if we do.
