Why We Package Our Tallow Balm in Amber Glass
When you choose a skincare product, it's easy to focus on what's inside the jar. The ingredients matter most, after all. But the container plays an important role too.
At Two of Earth, every decision is made with purpose, from the grass fed and finished Canadian tallow we source to the jars we fill it in. That's why you'll find our balms packaged in amber glass instead of clear plastic or transparent glass.
Here's why.
It Helps Protect What Is Inside
Natural skincare is made with ingredients that deserve to be treated with care.
While our tallow is carefully rendered and blended with thoughtfully chosen oils, prolonged exposure to sunlight can affect many natural ingredients over time. Amber glass helps reduce the amount of ultraviolet light that reaches the product, providing an extra layer of protection during everyday storage.
That does not mean your balm needs to live in a dark cupboard. Simply storing it out of direct sunlight is usually all it takes. The amber glass is there to help preserve the quality of the product throughout its life.
Glass Is a Natural Choice
Unlike some plastics, glass is non reactive. It does not absorb oils, hold onto scents or interact with the ingredients inside.
For a product that is made with just a handful of carefully selected ingredients, we believe the packaging should be just as dependable.
It is one more way to ensure that what you scoop out of the jar is exactly what we intended when we made it.
Made to Be Reused
One of our favourite things about amber glass is that it does not have to be thrown away after the last scoop.
Our customers have found all kinds of second lives for their jars. They become travel containers, homes for spices, cotton swabs, homemade salves, loose leaf tea or tiny keepsakes. They are sturdy, timeless and useful long after the balm is gone.
Of course, if you choose not to reuse it, glass is also widely recyclable.
Simple, Honest Packaging
We have never been interested in flashy packaging for the sake of it.
Our goal is to create products that feel grounded, practical and thoughtfully made. Amber glass reflects that philosophy. It is functional first, quietly beautiful and designed to protect what matters most.
Every Detail Matters
We believe quality is built through hundreds of small decisions.
It starts with sourcing 100 percent grass fed and finished Canadian tallow. It continues through our careful rendering process, our thoughtfully selected ingredients and our small batch production.
Choosing amber glass is simply another one of those decisions.
It may seem like a small detail, but small details are often what separate products that are made to sell from products that are made to last.
Because when you care about what goes into the jar, it only makes sense to care about the jar too.
How to Store Your Tallow Balm
The good news is that tallow balm is wonderfully stable and does not require any special storage.
To help keep it at its best, we recommend:
Store your balm in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Keep the lid tightly closed when not in use.
Use clean, dry hands or a small cosmetic spatula when scooping out the balm.
Avoid leaving it in places that experience prolonged heat, such as a parked car or a sunny windowsill.
If your balm becomes soft during the warmer months, don't worry. This is completely normal for products made with natural fats and oils. Simply move it to a cooler spot and it will firm up again. Changes in texture do not mean the balm has gone bad or lost its benefits.
Just like the ingredients inside, a little thoughtful care goes a long way.
